The World of Blogging

If you've stumbled onto my blog recently, you'll notice there isn't a lot of posts and it's relatively new. And yes although this is a brand new blog still in it's infant stages, I did blog for a wee while last year.
The difference this time around is I feel a lot more comfortable with the content I'm writing, I can finally admit to myself that last year I was simply trying to fit in with all the other "#bbloggers" around. I wanted to blog about beauty, fit in with that crowd and feel as fabulous and wonderful as I perceived people in that category were.
It simply wasn't me. Sure I love make-up and I wear it nearly every day, But blogging about the latest products and what's on trend was certainly way out of my depth. I don't follow fashion and I'm really not interested in the latest trends and fads.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong if you are interested in the world of fashion and beauty, but I feel like so many young girls these days are jumping on the already over saturated bandwagon of beauty blogging because they see so many successful young women who have become famous to an extent and get a lot of great opportunities because they blog about cosmetics and style.

I was one of them, but I found it increasingly difficult to keep up. Firstly, it becomes expensive. You feel the need to buy all sorts of products and items of clothing to "show off" what you have and review things you feel people will enjoy reading about. Secondly, I really didn't feel like I had the knowledge to back up what I was talking about. I'm not an avid fan of reading fashion magazines and I was never that interested in what was new in the world of cosmetics.
Now that I've started writing about things I feel matter to me and things I actually enjoy, I'm finding myself writing a lot more and feeling far more relaxed about it. Although I still do blog about beauty products, I'm trying to keep the focus on the fact that what I talk about is cruelty free, that is what matters to me in regards to the products I use. Not the brand name and not if they're on trend or not.

I feel like it's important to remember that if you're going to start a blog the advice of "being true to yourself" is not to be taken lightly. Don't fall into the glamorous trap of the beauty blogging world, if you are truly interested in style and beauty then by all means go for it. But if you're not - don't feel as if that's the only style of blog out there. You'll find it far more rewarding to write about things you're really interested in, and your numbers should never influence what you write about. Followers are great but they are not the be all and end all of blogging. Promote what you do but don't shove it down people's throats, hashtags are handy and joining blogger groups on Facebook can help too.

Write for the enjoyment of writing, don't write for fame, followers or money.

  1. What a lovely refreshing post to read, it really makes a change to find someone different with A blog . I loved everything you said you really hit the nail on the head. I know what you mean there is a massive group of bloggers who seem exactly the same and do exactly the same .sometimes it's nice to find someone different and read something different for a change. I feel exactly the same as you but I don't feel I could have put it in such apt wording.this post alone has made me want to keep checking your blog! because now I know you are one of the people who will definitely not follow the crowd just "because" and always stay true to yourself . A real person !!! . You are the kind of person I was hoping to come across.i'm very new to the blogging world too! And want to keep it very personal as well as relatable, I want it as a record of the things I've loved and experienced in this part of my life onwards. You have made me feel a lot more comfortable with the way and direction my blog is going so thank you so much for that. good luck with all your future posts ! It's very daunting starting a blog and I hope others find this too and feel the same.

    Lots of love
